Things to See Do in Puerto Escondido
Take a Nature Hike in Laguna de Manialtepec
Laguna de Manialtepec is a wildlife preserve filled with exotic birds, mangrove forests and is home to a large lagoon. Head out for a day of nature hiking and explore the winding trails around the preserve, or take a guided halfday tour of the lagoon and nearby sites.
Playa Zicatela is famous for its offwhite colored sands and surfing opportunities. It hosts a national surfing championship each year, and is within walking distance to area hotels and restaurants. The strong undertow and rip currents make this a prime destination for experienced surfers and courageous rafters.
Go Deep Sea Fishing on the Marisa
The Marisa sport fishing charter boat works its way around the beaches of Puerto Escondido each day, and you can hop aboard for a deepsea fishing adventure to see the pargo, roster fish, lo shark, tuna and spanish mackerel up close. The Marisa boat is a 25foot fishing boat that can seat between two to five people comfortably, and is one of the biggest boats in Puerto Escondido.
Go Snorkeling with the Dolphins in Playa Manzunte
Playa Manzunte is a quiet ecoreserve that is most famous for its impressive sea turtle museum. However, many visitors head here for the ecotour offered by the local cooperative. You can head out for a threehour tour to see the dolphins and sea turtles while snorkeling around the pristine blue waters.
